We are talking a lot about ideas, but we do not talk too much on the problems created by our society. Ideas in many cases are based on the solutions to problems affecting a group of persons or society as a whole. At The World’s Biggest Problems, those problems regarded by the Arlington Institute – founded in 1989- as the biggest problems of mankind: Economic Collapse, Peak Oil, Global Water Crisis, Species Extinction, Rapid Climate Change .
What sense does it have creating a website where the five biggest problems of our planet are discussed? On one hand, it is interesting as a documental fund, in which the most relevant news about these big problems are collected; on the other hand, the main objective is that the world becomes conscious of global problems. The trend is that people focus on problems which are close to them, forgetting the big problems, except for when they are mentioned on the TV news or commented by politicians during their speeches.
But, it is really effective to insist on these problems and to try to inform society about what is happening? If we remain at that level, I believe the utility is very little; but if we start precise actions, like many of the competitions and inventions we talk about in this blog, then it is really useful to have all the information about the big problems of this world at hand.
