Before talking about the current edition of the Spark Awards, maybe we can help you to get an exact idea of what these awards are looking for. Let us have a look at the website winners of the 2008 edition. Among them, we may find such different devices or ideas like a kitchen (illustrating this post), a bike, a radio or different ideas applicable to architecture.
So, these are awards for design; they are open awards. As the website Inventor Spot is telling us, the call for the awards is done under a clear slogan: democratic design. Both experienced professionals and beginners may participate; of course, the award does not forget the professionals of the future, the students.
These awards consider design in the most complete way of the concept. We quote Inventor Spot: “The term `design´ has grown until it is covering nowadays such different disciplines like architecture and videogames, including almost any consumer product.
The first round of the 2009 edition of the Spark Awards has been opened; it will last until September, 11th, of this year; a second phase will then start, lasting until October, 12th. During the first round, participants must present three images and a short explanatory text, in order to avoid unnecessary costs, although we have to mention that participation is not for free.
On the website of the event, which is very well structured, you may see all kind of information on the event, including the criteria the jury will use for awarding the prizes; there will be plenty of prizes, ranging from sustainability to ergonomic and safe design, but also including elegance and beauty, universality and, of course, two characteristics which today are very much sought for: creativity and innovation.
The website stresses also other aspects when talking about the contest. For instance, “change factor” is given high priority, provided we are talking about change for improving, of course. The jury will also recognize the use of technology and all what implies the use of original and new resources.
