The Spanish municipality of Fuentes de Andalucía has seen the construction of the first commercial-scale Solar Thermal Power Plant, operating non-stop, 24 hours a day. The plant’s name is Gemasolar.
These impressive facilities have the capacity to power 25,000 homes.
This plant is groundbreaking in that it uses two tanks of molten salt, in order to store 99% of power generated in the plant. A leap forward in the generation of Solar Thermal energy, which can now be stored in molten salt to “produce electricity without solar radiation” Truly, a very important step forward.
