Just in case some of our readers are not familiar with the term, we want to explain briefly that Solaris is an operative system created by the company Sun Microsystems.
As shown in the Wikipedia, one part of the code of this system is free; a project called OpenSolaris exists, gathering more than 100.000 persons working to improve the tool; system administrators, programmers and simple users who work in a transparent and gregarious way, trying to achieve the highest quality possible.
Recently, Sun Microsystems has published the names of the winners of the Innovation Awards of the OpenSolaris project. Among all the winners, we want to highlight Genuix.org. The people behind have been the absolute winners, and have been awarded with 30.000 $ in total. We also want to highlight the work of the Spaniard David Galán, visible head of the community OpenSolaris Hispano, which has been awarded twice: a first prize, with 15.000 €, for its project Cayac, and a third prize for the module PHPEasyTools.
David Galán has a blog called Aulaunix in which he explains his projects in more detail. You may have also more information on the winners on the website Baquia, and you can consult the full list of awarded winners on the website of OpenSolaris.
