Ford, the car manufacturer, has launched an idea contest, inviting five universities of all over the world. One of the universities invited is Deakin University, from Australia. The target is to develop a car model fueled by air. The idea is to create a new model of the historic Ford T – model; a T – model for the 21st century, which is respectful with the environment. Within the Ford motor company, the challenge has been set by the Division of Global Technologies, which is responsible for the intellectual property rights and the brands of the company. Within the Division, a specific department is focuses on environmental issues.
The new ideas on cars fueled by compressed air have to satisfy the requirement to be autonomous for, at least, 200 km.
Within the line of cars fueled by compressed air, there already exist several initiatives, and it is only reasonable that Ford does not want to be behind the trend. Among these initiatives, we may highlight IT MDI Energy or Air Car Factories, who are open to receive ideas from outside to improve these technologies related with compresses air. One more remarkable initiative is headed by Guy Nègre, who has already got the support of the car manufacturer Tata to be the idea of an air fueled car to the end.
