The Spanish press recently wrote (again) about the surgical robot da Vinci because a new unit came to Spain to the Policlínica Guipúzcoa. With this new robot, now six Spanish provinces have already one of these valuable helps, especially for urology, gynecology and cardiac surgery.
Some readers may think that they would not dare lying down on an surgery table knowing that a machine will operate them; but we want to clarify that it is the doctor who continues operating. The difference is that the doctor no longer is in front of the patient, but at the control of the surgical robot thanks to a console, from which he “transfers” the necessary moves to the robot. The precision and the skills are still the doctor´s, but da Vinci increases the probabilities of success in each operation.
Da Vinci is a product (we like to say it is more than just a product) of the company Intuitive Surgical. Engineers of the NASA have helped to design it.
You have more information about this surgical robot on the website of the manufacturer, Intuitive Surgical. If you are still curious and want to learn more about it, in this video you may see da Vinci working during prostate surgery.
