I was visiting the blog TheDesignBlog.org and started thinking about the great value design contributes to ideas, especially when these are ideas for new products. One need only see some of the designs shown in this blog to check how determining a factor design is and how, in fact, design corresponds to an important part of the idea.
Another factor to be taken into account lies in design contests, for all manner of everyday objects and devices are the fruit of some design contest or of the work of some designer who has been innovative in his or her work. These design contests, which are often based on simple concepts or ideas, eventually contribute a considerable value to the world of industrial design, architecture, consumer products, …
Seeing some of the product designs appearing in the above-mentioned blog, I have been struck by those that, although simple, do contribute value to certain people. For instance, this inflatable canoe that can be kept in one’s backpack and is of great use for lovers of nature, water sports, … Likewise, this backpack, from which one can produce a crutch or walking stick, which is good for people with walking difficulties and can be very useful whenever the person needs to lean on something to rest.
These are two examples in which the design of the product is a totally determining factor when it comes to embodying an idea conceived to satisfy a need. Fortunately for all of us, there are many people devoting their time to conceiving and generating ideas that designers will be able to turn into truly useful products.
