Thanks to the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and big data, two ex-Microsoft engineers, Saad Ansari and Yasir Khokhar, have created a smart collar for cows through their company Connecterra. The collar monitors cow behavior and records all kinds of data on their life: when they eat, what they eat, how much they walk, etc. to detect possible health problems or determine the best moment to inseminate them and begin to produce milk.
The entire process improves milk production, as the difference between a healthy cow that is well taken care of and a cow that isn’t can be, in terms of milk produced, up to 30 liters a day. The idea is to improve the cow’s quality of life and make the farmer’s work easier, with an App that provides up-to-date information on the cow.
This project won the 2015 Startup of the Year award at Dublin’s Web Summit and has continued to grow since, now spanning three different continents.
