MIT Media Lab, in association with the Harvard Medical School, has surprised us once again with an original project: Dermal Abyss. The idea is to explore “biointerfaces”, i.e. use our body surface like a “screen” that displays visual information.
Research began with something quite common, tattoos. Techniques were applied to tattoos with ink that changes color depending on biochemical variations in the body of the person with the tattoo.
This will allow them to develop “bio tattoos” that react to glucose levels and change color, which in turn will give diabetics visual information at all times on changes in their sugar levels, so that they may know if they need an insulin injection.
