Big Ideas @ Berkeley is an initiative of the university which started back in 2005 with the aim of rising funds for the pre-grade and post-grade students to implement their ideas. Around this “marketplace”, alumni, families and corporations are offered the opportunity to finance projects and innovative ideas of students who continue at the university.
Associated with this marketplace, an idea contest called Bears Breaking Boundaries has been started in March, 2006. Two contests have already been organized on previous years. This years contest includes prices worth 170.000 USD.
Big Ideas Berkeley has already supported more than 40 students, who can develop their ideas to revolutionize such important aspects like the improvement of the environment, obtaining clean energies, ecological cities, the treatment of forgotten diseases, …
These initiatives, on top of the financing ideas and projects of the students, puts a lot of interest in promoting the entrepreneurial spirit between the students of the university, with the goal that they not only may win prices, but also may generate an innovative attitude among them and help them to search for new challenges.
