AUDEO is a device that interprets the nervous signals originating at the brain and it turns them into electrical signals that the machines can understand to start working.
It seems difficult to believe, but after having demonstrated publicly its effectiveness and after winning various awards among which it has the Lemelson-MIT Award (considered the Nobel of the inventors), Michael Callahan, cofounder of Ambient, has taken the evolutionary step that leads towards the mental control whose projection will be materialized in multitude of present applications, like the ones shown in the demonstrations of Callahan (conversations, mobility,…) and others that have not yet been considered and those still to arise.
Callahan is graduated by the University of Illinois in Enterprise Engineering and Systems, having developed his idea before graduating thanks to the money obtained with some prizes gained at that stage. In 2004, in collaboration with the RIC (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), he begins to experiment its device in people with mobility problems.
In October of 2005 it creates the Ambient Company to commercialize its technology. During all this time, in parallel to his awards and prizes, he has been dedicated to provide resources to students in order to permit they move ahead their engineering projects and ideas, and currently works with Motorola in a project directed to the Indian poor.
The excellent thing of the idea of this engineer, 24 years old, is the discrimination between all the nervous signals emitted by the brain, selecting only those that are destined to become words, and in addition, look for them its final destiny, instead of trying to catch them at its origin, the brain. This simplifies the things enormously, because everything needed is a sort of necklace fit to the neck with a sensor near the vocal cords. This approach is what has made the difference.
The rest is technology of generalized telecommunications in which it takes into account the signal processing, computation and wireless communication. Today we are closer to nano-chips inserted in an ear stands of eye glasses that allows us to control the demotic of the home, our financial management or our personal communications just by thinking.
