Nuevo Libro de Agustín Medina “ideas para tener ideas”. Advertising Guru Agustin Medina’s writes to ideas4all about his new Book on How to be creative without having a bit of imagination. In Spanish

October 26, 2008

Agustín Medina and I worked together some time back in the Spanish Schweppes account. I was the client and he was the Agency. He is one of the most creative advertising Gurus in Spain. He has a new book on the market about ideas ” ideas to have ideas”. Since is a Book not yet translated to Ebglish, that I know of, I will continue writing the rest of this post in Spanish.

Now this fast-paced, fascinating, and candid memoir reveals the creative process, relationships, and financial strategies behind his amazing entrepreneurial success. Here’s the story of how, after his first job in which he broke sales records at IBM, he risked $1,000 of his savings to found the first “computer utility” and became a millionaire before he was thirty, and how he succeeded in:

  • Waging an anti-monopoly battle against AT&T while building the first telephone company for computers
  • Growing the modest Bonanza Steakhouse chain to 600 restaurants
  • Creating software companies Sterling Software and Sterling Commerce (sold for $8 billion)
  • Growing a small arts-and-crafts company into more than 900 Michaeslstores
  • Creating Green Mountain Energy, arguably the most profitable green business in America

Ross Perot wrote

“His book is an inspirational journey through the early years of on-line computing, the creation and growth of the software products industry and the many and diverse achievements of one of the most important entrepreneurs of the 2oth century. ”

“A joy to read… Sam Wyly is a wonderful American character: a natural entrepreneur and builder with an otsized personality and humor to match his success. NANOTECHNOLOGY COMING ERA. ENGINES OF CREATION.

May 2, 2008

Coal and diamonds, sand and computer chips, cancer and healthy tissue: throughout history, variations in the arrangement of atoms have distinguished the cheap from the cherished, the diseased from the healthy“.

This is how “The Engines of Creation”, the book by K. Eric Drexler begins. It speaks of how nanotechnology can perfection any process of manufacture in a superlative degree, or any surgical operation going far beyond what is expected as well beyond, any task to develop as it could be the domestic cleaning.

If it is certain that nanotechnology already is moving ahead and that important advances take place every day, but it still seems very far away of the day where it would be fully incorporated in our daily life. Until it is not possible to take it to the field commercial applications and production in large series and critical mass scale, it will not be able to really help the human being in taking its next evolutionary step. Even though, at the laboratories, incredible experiments have been performed, and amazing devices from materials of unheard-of characteristics have been constructed, it is not sufficient and the definitive step is still missing: to take all that knowledge and apply it to the industrial field.

In the universities and research centers one works for the development of new materials from nano-metrics structures and their applications in diverse areas: super-condensers and batteries to store energy from clean origins, surgical special instruments, and material sources of high resistance for civil and aeronautical structures, as well as devices for gas storage or treatment of fluid…

The study of nano-technological processes will bring the pocket supercomputers of great calculation capacity and enormous possibilities unsought-of today, based on the quantum mechanics. With which, the electronics and the study of the quantum processes in these structures simultaneously must be developed for the industry of the nano-structures, to be able to arrive at defined and concrete hardware. This will make it even more complex. And it is not necessary to go all the way to excessively complex technological things, because the nanotechnology can be useful in very simple things like for instance clothes articles with self-cleaning new materials when exposed to sun light. Or we can fin nanotech applications in sports, like golf or the cycling.

The basic and technological Research phases are advancing at great speed, but now the challenge is in the development of profitable processes of manufacture and access to public and private financing. There are countries in which the policies in favor of advancing the state of the art technology are contributing significantly and this is already noticeable, for there is blossoming of new companies that offer products whose process of manufacture include nanotech elements or treatments.

INTERESTED IN GLOBAL BRAIN, INNOVATION, IDEAS,THEN WIKINOMICS IS A MUST

April 20, 2008

When I first started thinking that ideas4all could be an interesting and feasible project, around 4 years ago, Wikinomics did not exist.

When I started the sparring group with the 20 founders in 2006, it was about to be published and, I still had not read Wikinomics or come across it. It was not until this past March 2008 when I finally read it, because my brother in law a prestigious Spanish thinker and business innovator Antoni Trias sent me Wikinomics from San Francisco as a present. USA books take some time to get introduced into the Spanish market.

I could not have found a better validation for what we are about to start in the Internet world than Wikinomis. Our new, and what we believe, innovative and ambitious Ideagora project was able to find references for its objectives everywhere in the book.

Every one of its 11 chapters, with their provocative titles: Wikinomics, the Perfect Storm, The Peer Pioneers, Ideagoras, The Prosumers, The New Alexandrians, Platforms for Participation, The Global Plant Floor, The Wiki Workplace, Collaborative Minds, The Wikinomics Playbook, was an additional justification on why we should continue our efforts with the launch of ideas4all.com.

Wikinomics. How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything.

Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything

I highly recommend you all to read this book by Don Tapscott, from the University of Toronto where he teaches in the Rotman School of Management and CEO of New Paradigm think tank and previous best selling author of The Digital Economy and Anthony D. Williams MS Research of London School of Economics and Research Director of New Paradigm. I agree fully with the cover flap quote “Wikinomics the road-map for doing business int he 21st Century”
