Mobile phones today are so widely established in our society that, although mobile technology is still important, much more emphasis is being made on design.

Would you be capable of designing a mobile phone? LG now offers you the opportunity to do just that.

CrowdSpring LLC and LG Electronics have announced they will be organizing a competition for aspiring designers and anyone who believes they could build a better phone.

All you need is an idea, and a sketch with your design. There are 43 prizes to be won. First prize will be $ 20,000, $ 10,000 will go to the second prize winner, and $ 5,000 will be awarded as a third prize. LG will also give out 40 $ 1000 prizes (and a free LG phone).

If you want to take part, you must be 18 or over and live in the United States. Registration is already open, and ends on June 8th.

The contest also offers the opportunity to learn how to work with industrial design software such as Autodesk, one of the sponsors, who also offer a 15-day free trial period for their Sketchbook design software.

It is not clear exactly whether or not the winning design will go on to become an LG mobile phone. CrowdSpring say that “surely a prototype will be built. The designs presented could influence the type of phones we’ll be seeing next year”. “We’re looking for sketches”, stated Kimbarovsky, co-founder of CrowdSpring.

The following will be the evaluation criteria:
- Relationship between needs covered and market potential (40%).
- Creativity/ Originality / Innovation (30%).
- Viability (20 %).
- How easily the idea can be understood (10%).

Projects can be presented in any format, with or without illustrations (sketches, digital drawings, different versions). The format used will have no effect on the selection process. You can submit as many ideas as you like.
